So I’ve been in the market to get a truck, the need has been increasing more and more lately for one. I was looking around and decided to try and just buy one and pay cash, I’ve been squirreling away money and I felt like this was a good enough reason to use it, as I’ll be able to rebuild it and increase it easier as I’ll be able to do and haul more. My fiancé likes to buy (or get for free) things on Facebook marketplace, some of the recent stuff she’s done is clean and mend two free couches and turned a $250 profit in about a day. But to do this we had to keep borrowing a truck.
I decided I finally knew what I wanted to get, I’ve had one before and loved it, and they happen to be around the price range I want. I found a couple that I liked on marketplace, but the sellers stopped answering questions when I’d ask things like, “W here is the head unit?” And “D o you still have the factory wheels by chance?”
This is where Copart comes in, they happened to have one and it was only a couple hours away in Tulsa. So I decided to try it and see what I could get it for. I set a bid limit for myself of $3500 as I knew the fees and everything would make it around $4000-4500, which is still less than the others I had looked at. Another bonus was this one has a couple of the add-ons I wanted to get anyway, such as a grille guard and roof rack, and with a clean Carfax too, I went for it.
I work nights and the auction didn’t start until 12PM CST on Friday, so I stayed up and then had to wait for my lot to come up, there were a few times another person outbid me just a second or two before it was mine, it went from $2000 to $3000 pretty quick and I was getting anxious, but after $3000 it slowed, I fought off the other note rested parried and got the winning bid of $3300! Yay! But wait, what’s this? The seller had to approve the amount? Well damn, I guess I’ll wait and see what happens. About an hour later I get an email saying the seller countered with $4200! That’s not including the fees! I didn’t know what to do, I thought I had lost it, then I noticed I could counter offer, so I did, I counter offered the same as my winning bid, $3300. I was still willing to go to $3500, but didn’t like that I might have to. I didn’t get a response from the seller by the time I fell asleep to get a few hours before having to get up and go to work. I woke up and checked my emails, nothing, still no response in the 6 hours since I had countered back. A little bummed I got ready and went to work. I get to work and talk to my coworker about it and was a little more bummed, then I get an email notification. What’s this?! The seller has accepted my counter offer?! Woohoo, back in business!
TLDR , I bought a new to me truck from copart Sight unseen other than the 10 photos they posted and learned that not all of their auctions are pure bid auctions. And got what I feel like is a good deal on a vehicle I loved owning before.
I’ll be posting what it is Monday when I go get it, but I’d like to see your guesses on what it is.
Also any Tulsa area Oppos? I seem to remember Akio being one?

Akio is your Tulsa connection.

Glad it worked out for you. I don’t understand having a bidding process if the seller can ignore the bids and counter anything he wants.
